【Online event】Sustainable Life can be realized in Hiroshima

Featuring 3 people living sustainable lifestyle in Setouchi area, known as Japanese Mediterranean

Have you considered migrating to rural area of Japan to achieve your ideal sustainable life?

Because of the lower price of the real estate and place compared to the city, there're more oppotunities to start making crops in garden, renovating the old house, and living politely while feeling four seaons in Japan.
Hiroshima is a great place to settle to and begin a new life offering unique landscapes, a rich and diverse environment, and new and exciting opportunities.
Three guests living in Hiroshima will share their lifestyle, experiences of moving to rural area, and the cases of international people who make their ideal sustainable lifestyle come true.
Tom Coulton, living in Mitarai in Kure city, runs a photo studio and British style café. He renovated the old Japanese house.He also supports people who want to emigrate to the island.

JJ Walsh, long-time resident of Hiroshima, bacamme a talkshow host lauching the Seeking Sustainability LIVE series to connect with entrepreneurs, writers, artists, innovators and experts across Japan doing interesting and inspiring projects.

Jason Lawrence decided to explore the Seto Island Sea area during the summer of 2021 in search of land where he and his family hope to build a house, grow food and develop community after living in Singapore for 12 years. They now live on Oosakikamijima Island.

All of the guests are having fun to live sustainable lifestyle and trying to make sustainable society!

Tom moved to Mitarai area in Osaki-shimojima island
(Kure-city, Hiroshima) about 6 years ago.
He lives as a professional He lives as a photographer from Tokyo area and Hiroshima local business offers.
And also, he runs a photo studio and British style cafe in Mitarai area which he renovated Japanese style old house by himself.




Joy Jarman Walsh


Joy is a long-time resident of Hiroshima,who grew up in Hawaii.
Joy co^founded the website GetHiroshima in 2000 and taught marketing travel, business, gender and communication studies to university students for 21 years.in 2019, she launched Inbound Ambassador.
In 2020, during the coronavirus, Joy became a talkshow host, launching the Seeking Sustainability LiVE series to connect with entrepreneurs, writers, artists, innovators and experts across Japan doing interesting and inspiring projects.




Jason Lawrence


After living in Singapore for 12 years, Jason who is originally from New Zealand, and his family decided to explore the Seto Inland Sea area during the summer of 2021 in search of land where they hope to build a house, grow food and develop community. They now live on Oosakikamijima Island as they work towards realising these dreams while creating more family time.
